About BPW and Dallas Inc.
|
History
The club was first formed in 1916 by a group of women who met at the local YWCA. Three years later, two hundred and twelve women gathered in St. Louis in July 1919 to organize the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs. The organization promoted and continues to promote equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information.
Since then, members of Dallas Inc. have promoted the advancement of working women in the DFW metroplex. These women have always been active in lobbying for legislation
designed for the common good of all people. Immeasurable effort has gone into securing for women the right to vote and
serve on juries as well as the right to equality under the law.
The BPW organization is structured much like our United States government. The national federation has a president, officers and chairs that committees work with to ensure the federation runs smoothly and efficiently. Its population base is made up of members from the 50 states. The structure of state federations mirror the national organization, consisting of a president, officers, and chairs. The states population is made of members from the local organizations existing in their respective states.
